A Court Of Frost and Starlight | Mincemeat Tarts

A Court of Frost and Starlight is the epilogue to A Court of Wings and Ruin that every reader longs for when finishing an amazing book. However, I thoroughly enjoyed ACOWAR and it is such a solid conclusion that I had to wonder, what exactly is the purpose of the fourth book? Of course as soon as I began reading SJM drew me right back into Prythian and I didn’t want to leave fantasyland again. The story, set around Winter Solstice, is cozy and magical, yet also realistically depicts the pain and healing of post-war life in Velaris. The only grudge I’m holding onto is that the book didn’t really go anywhere, but I won’t be throwing out any “vulgar gestures” because of it.

Winter Solstice is the longest night of the year, which makes it the perfect choice for the Night Court’s Holiday celebration. Much of the food served in Rhys and Feyre’s home during this time is similar to traditional European Christmas fare; iced cookies, tarts, wine, hot cocoa, vegetables roasted with sage and rosemary. And so with winter holidays in-mind, I was inspired to make a family favorite, mincemeat tarts. Packed with currants, citrus peel and winter spices, these little tarts do not disappoint.

Happy Solstice!

Mincemeat Tarts

I followed @bakingforfriends_ recipe here, using a quality store-bought mincemeat for ease (Robertsons is meat-free).

Quick Tip: If you choose to make mini tarts as I did, bake for 16-18 min.
