the Mistletoe Mystery: A Maid Novella | Gingerbread Christmas Tree

You are missing out if you haven’t started the Molly the Maid series yet. Molly is a quirky and loveable hotel maid that often finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time and in a few cases, the suspect at the center of a mystery. The Mistletoe Mystery is book 2.5 in the Maid series, this is not a stand alone book, you must read The Maid and The Mystery Guest books first.

While I’ve seen some reviews say that this book is a little light on substance, I didn’t find that it bothered me, it is a novella after all. That being said, it is short and sweet and I don't want to spoil any of the story so I’ll just say this, there’s a little romance, a bit of her Gran’s story and plenty of Molly-isms. For me, this book is the perfect quick escape during the busyness of the holiday season.

When Molly and her boyfriend try to buy a christmas tree, they quickly realize a full sized tree is out of their budget. The tree lot attendant comes to their rescue by spiking a discarded branch to a couple of pieces of wood for a “precious misfit tree.” Inspired to make my own tree, out of cookies of course, I went for the classic gingerbread cookie as it is a sturdy if not delicious choice. Making the tree is quite easy, I used a star cookie cutter set from amazon to bring it all together.

Make 1.5x the recipe for Nora’s gingerbread cookie dough. Roll out dough and cut out two of each of the star cookie cutters, bake as directed, ice, let dry and stack. It’s actually that simple!
