Heartless Hunter | Raspberry Streusel Bars
The scars of witches betray their magic, and in The New Republic, this means death.
Rune Winters has found a way to use her blood magic without creating scars, giving her the unique ability to hide in plain sight and use her skill to rescue other witches.
Captain of the Blood Guard, Gideon Sharpe, was subjugated and abused by witches and has dedicated his life to eradicating them from The New Republic.
Rune must use Gideon for his knowledge, to save more witches, and Gideon suspects Rune may not be who she seems. Thus begins a relationship built on lies, where one wrong move could mean death.
Will fear or love win out in the end?
My favourite part about this book, besides the romantic tension, is the maturity of the characters.
Most romantasy enemies-to-lovers have a flimsy premise that just isn’t quite believable. But these two have real reason to hate each other. And yet they also have empathy, taking in what the other says and actually having self reflection.
Which I found refreshing.
These Raspberry Streusel bars are inspired by Rune – The Crimson Moth.
She carefully shields her identity by appearing more delicate and innocuous than she really is. But under the surface is hiding a sharpness and depth which, while carefully hidden, is hard to miss when you look closely enough.

I used this recipe from Sally’s Baking Addiction.
If you have a sweet tooth, keep as is! But, if you’re like me and enjoy your treats a little less sweet, I recommend cutting the raspberries preserves down to ½ cup or using a low sugar jam.
Either way they are super delish.
Hi I’m Cheri, I’ve been staying up too late reading since I was a kid hiding under the covers with a flashlight.
