A Court of Thorns and Roses | Tamlin’s Rose Garden Chocolate Torte
This series needs no introduction, so I won’t go into an in-depth review here. But one of my favourite storylines in the book is Feyre’s complicated relationship with her family. She loves, cares, and sacrifices for them, even though they don’t do the same for her in return. It is the core of who she is - feeling as though the fate of everyone is in her hands, and not expecting anything in return. This drive is what ultimately helps her to make difficult decisions and transforms her into the hero of the story.
My inspiration for this recipe was two-fold. 1) One of the first things Feyre eats in the faerie realm is a chocolate torte. Which disappears when she goes for a second slice. A chocolate torte is a one layer, fudgy chocolate cake and I just couldn’t get it out of my head. 2) In Tamlin’s rose garden, Feyre finally faces her feelings about her family. How even though she sacrificed for them, they were never willing to do the same for her. It is a realization to start thinking more for herself and not hold quite so tightly to responsiblity. Although she never truly let’s go of this, it allows her to experience joy and to seek out relationships that grant her more freedom, which is carried into the second book of the series.
So bringing this all together, I made a chocolate torte and topped it with strawberry roses and mint leaves. The strawberry roses are surprisingly easy to make, and are perfect for people who don’t want want to mess around with piping bags. This would be a delicious addition to your book club meet up if you are reading this book!

Tamlin’s Rose Garden Chocolate Torte
I made this Flourless Chocolate Torte and decorated it with strawbery roses. Video tutorial and tips below.
Tips
• Before starting, remove the green leaves by pulling, not cutting - you want the base intact.
• The thinner the slices the more realistic the petals will look.
• If the petals are not spreading, they’re either too thick or you haven’t sliced down far enough.
• Use the tip of your knife for the most control.
• If you want to use the roses on a surface that is not flat, simply stick a toothpick in the base of the strawberry to secure it in place. (Such as I did on the edges of this chocolate torte.)

Hi I’m Cheri, I’ve been staying up too late reading since I was a kid hiding under the covers with a flashlight.
